Our Work — RobotGirls

Mission

RobotGirls exists to serve two missions: First, we create teams of technically competent, creative, team-oriented people who can solve really tough technical problems. Our program requires students to lead as well as execute, so in addition to the technical skills of programming, design, fabrication, assembly, test, and operations they learn planning, scheduling, mentorship, and team management.

Second, we work to help close gender gaps before they start and keep them closed through high school. Every position is held by a girl, every line of code, every component placed, and every problem solved is completed by a girl.

Our Teams

RobotGirls is proud to feature our founding teams: Team 5218 Javabots and Team 25 Rock n Roll Robots. Sponsored by the NASA Jet Propulsion Lab and mentored by JPL engineers, these teams are the beating heart and soul of our program.

Where We Work and What We Do

Every RobotGirls team gets real tools, real mentors, and a space where girls fill every role on the team. Working in southern California since 2007, we have trained hundreds of girls to design, analyze, machine, print, assemble, test, break, repair, and compete with their own hardware.

RobotGirls is a broad network: our student-contact volunteers are parents and mentors drawn broadly from SoCal's deep engineering communities. Our mentors are entrepreneurs, scientists, and engineers with decades of experience.

Our commercial and corporate partners provide the support we need to fund team operations, travel to meets, and help us grow our program across the region.

2020 Teams 25 and 5218 reach capacity, RobotGirls starts its first wait list
2023 World Championship — tied for 25th in the world, best finish in RobotGirls history
2027 Planned expansion to three teams, relocation to larger, more capable facilities
